How It Works

It works by using the skins natural ability to repair itself whenever it encounters physical damage, including burns, cuts and other abrasions. Once an injury has occurred, the body works to reuse the elastin fibres and damaged collagen to help produce new skin components.

Sometimes known as skin needling, derma roller rejuvenation enables a controlled induction of a self-repair mechanism in the skin. It creates micro-injuries in the skin, triggering new collagen synthesis. This results in smoother, firmer and younger looking skin.

About The Process

During this process, a roller which is covered with numerous tiny needles is used to help rejuvenate skin. These needles used at Ivory Taylor penetrate the upper layers of the skin, offering two major benefits. It effectively stimulates collagen formation at the same time as providing a clear channel for topical serums/active ingredients in your skincare to be absorbed more effectively through the top layer of your skin.

Dermal Rolling creates a very minor (almost microscopic) trauma which lasts for a short period of time. It is a form of collagen induction therapy intended to smooth wrinkles and improve depressed acne scarring

As your technician rolls the Dermal Roller across your skin, it makes pin point punctures into their dermis. Your body perceives this as damage, triggering the release of growth factors. In turn, these stimulate the production of elastin and collagen. The human body is designed to react to injury by initiating the healing process, but usually it will just mend as far as necessary to keep you in good health – which is very different to healing at a cosmetic level.

What Should I Avoid Following Treatment?

As a result, it is possible that you will look or feel as though you have sunburn after treatment. To make sure that your skin quickly goes back to normal and to achieve the most promising results, at Ivory Taylor we advise:

  • Always make sure that your hands are thoroughly clean when touching the treatment area post procedure.
  • Aggressive Skin Care Products should be avoided until the redness has subsided and it is recommended that makeup is not applied for 24 hours after the procedure.
  • Avoid sauna s, exercise, hot baths/showers until the redness has gone (this is usually within 24 hours minimum)
  • Avoid intensive sunlight exposure and artificial UV exposure for a period of at least 2-3 weeks after the procedure.
  • Fake tan should not be applied 10-14 days prior, and 7 days following a Dermaroller treatment

What Steps Should Be Taken to Ensure Optimum Results?

As soon as any redness has gone, it can be common for your skin to feel drier than normal. According to the Harley Medical Group, they recommend the following Skin Care Range for patient s receiving Derma Roller Therapy:

  • Gentle Cleanser am and pm
  • Anti-Ageing Youth Serum am and pm
  • Ivory Taylor Anti-Ageing Moisturising Complex am and pm
  • Aloe Vera Gel following the treatment until the redness has subsided
  • Ivory Taylor SPF 50 daily for a minimum of 2-3 weeks post-treatment or throughout the course.

If you are prone to breakouts of acne or have oily skin after derma roller rejuvenation, this may be because deeper impurities need to come to the surface to increase any cell turnover.

Feel free to speak to your treatment specialist to discuss the products and methods available to help resolve acne. However, often maintenance treatments are suggested as a way of receiving the best results.
